I am Sensei Kevin Ludick Chief Instructor of the Combat Gym.I started training Goju-Ryu Karate under Sensei Chris Brooderyk in Orkney a small mining town in South Africa about 1982. Sensei Chris Brooderyk was a very good teacher and extremely passionate and had a very good eye for Kata detail and perfection of basic technique.
I started training in Goju-Ryu Karate because my prier style Ninjutsu was not that well known in those days and not available. I was having a problem with some bullies and needed to keep training to make myself strong and confident and protect myself. It was very new from my previous style so I lured to adapt to new beliefs and added to my old training new skills.

After training to reach a brown belt level my family moved to a new town and that’s where I met Shihan Sensei Franse Bronkhorst a South African Springbok Champion Karateka in the national team. Training was really tuff with Shihan Sensei Frans but it was exactly what I wanted and needed at that time as I had a lot of challenges in the new town as you can imagine.The training helped my Rugby also and I made the Provincial team.

 

 

We competed in Competitions on a regular basis and we were in the papers on a regular basis. This made a bid difference in myself belief. Shihan Franse has been the most influential part of my Martial Arts life and still is my Mentor and Life Coach when I need held advice. I asked Shihan Frans his blessing for my first Dojo in 2001 and I was so pleased to know that Shihan Frans gave me his support and blessing that I worked harder than ever not to let him down.

My brother Raymond Ludick started training with me about 1984, and in 1988 we both got hour “Shodan’s” First Dan Black Belt under Shihan Frans. My bother Raymond Ludick passed tragically away in a car accident November 2004 Raymond and he was a true inspiration when it came to his passion for Karate and as a person with his lust for life and his big friendship circle that was extensive and divers like his personality. Together we would dream to have our own Dojo and build it in our back yard, young imaginations for you.
I would like to thank Raymond for dreaming with me as my dream has come true and I managed to build the dream and now help other people reach their dreams. My dreams are now in the United Kingdom were I started my first Dojo 2001 and only a small hut in a town called Weston-super-mare. I am happy to say that I still live the dream every day and know in a big training facility that offers all the equipment one needs to do the martial arts we practise.

Karate has always given me a strong Backbone and helped me find my full potential no matter how many other styles of Martial arts I’ve studied. Karate has the strictest etiquette and discipline. That is way the word “DO” means Suffering or “Way” if you learn to suffer a bit in life then you will become stronger to not give up to easy but keep striving for perfection as Karate teach us.

“Goju” Karate means “Hard Soft” Karate and we should strive for the same in our lives a balance between hard and soft. This is the “Jin and Yang” principle.
 

Be sensitive to “hard and soft” train with the intension of being a “black belt” from the first session

It’s easy to give up, but hard getting up every time and dusting yourself off and giving things another try, no matter what the outcome, win or lose its all luring you are winning every time as life teach you.
